Website vs. Blogging as a Church Planter

For the past few years, it seems like you can’t be a church planter unless you have a blog. Recently several church planters I know have quit blogging. Either they got too busy with church stuff, ran out of ideas, or just lost interest in it.

For me, I was one of those that got so busy with the details involved in planting the church, that I just didn’t have time to blog anymore. One of the things that killed my blogging was my desire to make sure that our church website always had current stuff on it. What I ended up doing was blogging on my church site without calling it my personal blog. I think it was one of the best decisions I made.

Think about it for a minute. What good is it to have a great personal blog if your church site is stale? I know, I know, you’ve got a link to your personal blog on your site.  But why are you trying to divert people away from your church site to your personal blog site??? Why not just get people hooked on checking your church site regularly?

What I found is that when I regularly posted my blog content on my church website, people checked the church website more often. Then when we wanted to get the word out about up coming events, small groups, sermon series, or outreach opportunities people were seeing them because they were in the habit of checking our site every week.
